First Tee – Hawaiʻi calls on community to become coaches and help reach more local youth

The First Tee – Hawaiʻi is calling on parents, golfers, community members, and anyone passionate about supporting Hawaiʻi’s youth to step forward and become a First Tee coach.

As First Tee – Hawaiʻi works to expand its programs and reach more keiki across the islands, one thing is essential: caring coaches who are ready to make a difference.

To help grow its coaching team, First Tee – Hawaiʻi will host a free Level 1 Coach Training on Oct. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course, with lunch included. The training provides participants with the tools and resources they need to begin coaching with First Tee — regardless of their golf skill level or previous coaching experience.

“We need committed coaches for our local keiki,” said a First Tee – Hawaiʻi representative. “You don’t need to be a golf professional or an experienced instructor. We’re looking for people who care about kids, believe in what First Tee stands for, and are willing to share their time and encouragement. We’ll give them the training and tools they need.”

First Tee uses golf as a vehicle to help young people develop character and important life skills. Coaches play a central role in that experience, creating a positive and welcoming environment where participants can learn the game while developing confidence, perseverance, responsibility, and other skills that extend far beyond the golf course.

The Oct. 10 training is an opportunity for adults throughout the community to discover how they can contribute.

First Tee – Hawaiʻi especially encourages parents and family members of current participants to consider becoming coaches. Golf experience is helpful but not required. What matters most is a willingness to learn, connect with young people, and help create a positive experience for every participant.

As demand for First Tee programming grows, adding more trained coaches will allow the organization to serve more young people and strengthen its impact in communities across Hawaiʻi.

Free First Tee Level 1 Coach Training

Who Should Attend: Adults interested in becoming First Tee Hawaiʻi coaches; all golf skill and experience levels are welcome.

Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible to attend the Level 1 Coach Training, prospective coaches must successfully complete a background check and a brief online safety training in advance.
