KS Maui Sweeps Kekaulike, Earns State Berth

The Kamehameha Maui girls volleyball team clinched the Maui Interscholastic League Division I regular-season championship Thursday with a sweep of King Kekaulike.

The Warriors got 12 kills and two blocks from senior Patty Batoon en route to a 26-24, 25-22, 25-19 victory at King Kekaulike’s gym.

The win also assured the Warriors (10-1) a state berth and the No. 1 seed for next week’s MIL tournament.

Charity Sadang and Taylor Awai each added nine kills for Kamehameha.

King Kekaulike’s Treyanna Freitas had 11 kills and 14 digs , while Kalia Aguera had 11 digs and 20 assists.

King Kekaulike fell to 8-4, tied with Maui High (8-4), but the Sabers were awarded second place by virtue of their two wins in three head-to-head meetings with King Kekaulike.

Na Alii will face the Sabers in a key MIL tournament semifinal next Tuesday, Oct. 15.

On Tuesday, Oct. 8., Maui High defeated King Kekaulike in four sets, 25-20, 25-22, 16-25, 25-23.

Aguera had 18 assists and 10 digs against the Sabers, while Freitas had 19 digs and six kills. Angel Vallejo added eight kills for Na Alii.

The Sabers closed out their regular-season Thursday, Oct. 10, with a sweep of visiting Lahainaluna, 25-11, 25-20, 25-14.

The winless Lunas dropped to 0-12.

The MIL regular-season ends Saturday.
