Maui Crews Rescue Injured Colorado Man in Makawao Forest

A 51-year-old Colorado man was rescued after injuring his leg while running on the Kahakapao Trail in the Makawao Forest Reserve on Saturday afternoon.

The incident was reported at 3:23 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, by two bike riders who found the injured man and called for help, said Maui Fire Capt. Paul Haʻake.

Fire crews and medics hiked approximately one mile from the trail entrance to the patient, who was stabilized and carried out to an awaiting medic unit, officials said.

Emergency crews made contact with the patient at 4:18 p.m., and transported the man to the hospital for further treatment at 5:25 p.m., according to department reports.
