The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management announced that due to insufficient staffing, the Molokaʻi Landfill will be operating on a shorter schedule for several days this month.

Officials say the schedule changes will allow landfill personnel from Maui to travel to Molokaʻi to cover the staffing shortages.

County officials say the measure is being taken to ensure the safe operation of the landfill and to meet minimum operating requirements outlined by the state Department of Health, as mandated by the county’s solid waste permit.

The scheduled changes include:

  • Later opening on: March 18, 19 and 21, at 9:30 a.m.; and
  • Early closing on: March 20 and 22, at 12 p.m.

Officials with the Solid Waste Division apologized for the inconvenience and thanked the Molokaʻi community for their understanding.
