Baldwin Blanks Maui High in Series Opener

The Baldwin High School baseball team extended its win streak to seven Wednesday, thanks to a solid pitching performance from Noah Apolo and the timely hitting of Skyelor Ishikawa.
Apolo gave up just two hits – a pair of singles to Micah Jio – as Baldwin improved to 7-0 in the Maui Interscholastic League Division I baseball standings with a 9-0 win over cross-town rival Maui High.
Apolo struck out four and walked none as Baldwin improved to 7-0. Maui High fell to 5-1.
The second game of their three-game series begins today at Maehara Stadium, starting at 3:30 p.m. The game can be heard live on ESPN 900AM with Jordan Helle calling the action.
On Friday, April 11, the two teams will conclude their series at Maehara Stadium, beginning at 6 p.m.
King Kekaulike beat Lahainaluna, 6-1, in the early game Wednesday.
Hitting in the eighth spot, Ishikawa tripled in sixth inning over the head of Maui High right fielder Brandon Yonashiro to score runners from second and third base. Ishikawa finished with three RBIs.
Baldwin’s Makana Victorine had two hits, including a double. Temmate Newai Ah Yen also doubled.
Losing pitcher Callen Beeson struck out seven but suffered the loss. Maui High played five freshmen.
King Kekaulike 6, Lahainaluna 1
Ryley Widell pitched a six-hitter with 11 strikeouts for Na Alii (2-7).
Jerami Rother and Beanie Howden both had three hits apiece for the Warriors.
Meanwhile, Jacob Mahon batted 2-for-3 with a double for the Lunas.
