Maui Students in Michigan for National Auto Skills Finals

A team from Maui High School competes this week in the National Ford AAA Student Auto Skills Competition in Dearborn Michigan after taking the state title in April.
Students Chayce Mimura and Devin Vea will be competing for $11 million in scholarship prizes at the event, and a chance to job shadow a racing team at the Coke Zero 400 in Daytona Beach.
This is at least the 18th time Maui High has sent a team to the national event. Teams from Maui High have also placed in the top 10 for the past decade and won national titles in 1995 and 2000, according to AAA data.
Chayce and Devin will compete alongside 100 students at the national event on Tuesday, June 10.
The teams will compete in a timed hands-on competition in which they must fix a deliberately bugged 2014 Ford Fusion SE in a quest to perfectly repair the vehicle. The team with the fastest car repair time, plus best written test score, will determine the national champion.
The event is sponsored by Ford Motor Company and AAA as part of an educational effort to attract more young people to automotive professions.
