Governor to Hold 2 Bill Signing Ceremonies on Maui

Governor Neil Abercrombie will enact measures addressing family child care homes and liquor license classes at two separate bill signing ceremonies on Maui this Saturday.

The first signing event will take place at 8:15 a.m. at the Matsui Building in Makawao, where the governor will sign his name to House Bill 2560.

The bill, relating to family child care homes, permits the facilities in agriculturally designated districts, if located in a farm dwelling.  The bill also amends the definition of a family care home to allow for care of one to six unrelated children.

The other bill, relating to liquor license classes, will be signed into law during a ceremony at the Maui Brewing Company offices located at the Maui Research and Technology Park in Kīhei at noon on Saturday.

Senate Bill 3042 removes the 30,000-barrel per year manufacturing cap for malt beverages for class 14 brewpub licenses.

The bill also increases the manufacturing limit for class 16 winery licenses to not more than 20,000-barrels of wine on the licensee’s premises during the license year.

According to language in the bill, the measure establishes a new class 18 liquor license class for small craft producer pubs and prohibits brewpubs from selling intoxicating liquor from class 1 manufacturer licensees for consumption on the premises.

The bill further states that the measure makes conforming amendments relating to liquor license classes and federal labeling and bottling requirements.
