New University of Hawaiʻi MD Class Induction Tonight

Sixty-six individuals will be inducted into the new class of medical students during a “White Coat Ceremony” at the University of Hawaiʻi tonight.

University administrators say the class, which includes 37 men and 29 women ranging in age from 18 to 39, were selected from a record pool of 2,225 applicants.

According to medical school records, 88% of the students in the new class are from Hawaiʻi or the Pacific.  The class also consists of graduates from 22 public high schools, including Dane Kurohara of Wailuku who graduated from Baldwin High School on Maui.

School administrators say the list of students include five from Hawaiʻi Island, and one each from Kauaʻi and Maui.

The John A Burns School of Medicine primary care program is ranked in the top 60 of medical schools in the nation by US News & World Report.
