Maui Coffee Attic Opens in Wailuku

Wailuku is now home to the Maui Coffee Attic, a quaint, 1950s-style café aiming to serve coffee with a kick. The new coffee establishment opened its doors on Jan. 12 at 59 Kanoa St. in the old Hokama’s Music & Color TV building. The shop is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Attic currently serves espresso and Maui Ona coffee blends sourced locally from Kona, Ka‘u, and Maui County, and will soon offer potent shots of Vietnamese and Cuban espresso for customers in need of an extra buzz.

Maui Coffee Attic uses the cash register and soda fountain of Hokama’s, the former business at that location.

Owner John Henry of John Henry Photography said the breakfast and lunch menu in the works will include muffins, bagels, personal-sized pizzas, sandwiches, fresh salads with homemade dressings, and more. The menus are still being finalized and are anticipated to begin feeding hungry clients in late January or early February.

The Attic additionally serves as a private venue that can be rented for business meetings. The space can accommodate up to 25 people and costs $50 per hour. Interested parties can make a reservation by calling (808) 250-9555.

Major League Baseball player Kurt Suzuki of the Minnesota Twins paid a visit to the Attic on Jan. 19 to support the new café and share a cup of joe. The Baldwin High School graduate is a friend and photography client of the owner.
