Women Helping Women to Host Superhero-Themed Evening Tea Fundraiser

The Women Helping Women organization on Maui will host its 18th annual elegant tea fundraiser on Sunday, March 8, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the King Kamehameha Golf Club in Waikapū.

The theme of this year’s event, “Sometimes You Have to Be Your Own Superhero,” is a tribute to the heroism of domestic violence survivors.

The evening event features live music and entertainment, a silent and live auction, dinner, libations and handmade desserts by the students of the Maui Culinary Academy.

“Every year we see women surviving domestic violence, using superhuman strength they never knew they had, leaping through legal obstacles and financial crises and facing fears we can only imagine,” said organization director Stacey Moniz.

“But they do it,” she said, “And they conquer domestic violence, day by day, struggle by struggle.  Life just isn’t as simple as the good guys versus bad guys. But for this one day, International Women’s Day, we will celebrate the heroes in our community.”

Women Helping Women provides crisis intervention and support services for direct and indirect victims of domestic violence.

The mission of the organization is to end domestic violence through advocacy, education and prevention, while offering safety, support and empowerment to those impacted by domestic violence.

Organization leaders say proceeds from the annual event will help to keep their mission alive.

“Please join us in helping those who couldn’t help themselves,” said Women Helping Women board president Massy Cashen in an event announcement.

“Your donation to Women Helping Women will change lives and will go a long way. I know this because I was once a recipient of that wonderful assistance. I am grateful for its volunteers and staff who make a meaningful difference in the lives of the women and children who went through a terrible domestic violence experience.”

Guests are encouraged to arrive dressed like their favorite superhero (or superhero alter ego) as part of the festivities.

Tickets cost $150 per person or $1,650 per reserved table, which seats up to 11 people and can be purchased online at the Women Helping Women website.
