Today

Partly to mostly cloudy skies are in the forecast today for windward sides with scattered showers. A rather showery NNE flow pattern continues this morning thanks to a relatively cool, unstable boundary layer which is helping to enhance trade wind showers early this morning. Some of the showers have been briefly heavy with rainfall rates of nearly 2 inches per hour. The showery weather is expected to continue this morning for windward and mauka spots, but let up a bit during the day. Leeward spots should be mostly clear with just isolated showers blowing over from the windward side from time to time. High clouds are also expected to work their way into the forecast. Breezy northeast winds are forecasted from 15 to 25 mph. High temperatures from 75° to 80°.

Looking Ahead

Cool and breezy northeast trade winds are expected through Saturday providing cooler than normal temperatures statewide. Stable conditions will focus showers over the windward slopes into the weekend. Fairly wet conditions are expected during the overnight and early morning hours for windward and mauka sections of Maui the next couple of days. Enhanced moisture will linger just south of the state and may bring increasing showers to Maui and the Big Island late Sunday and Monday. Northeast winds are expected to weaken Sunday and turn north Monday.
