Kahula and Ako to Perform Hawaiian Music Concert in Lahaina
By Maui Now Staff
Maui residents and visitors are invited to enjoy a relaxing evening of traditional and contemporary music with Josh Kahula and Preston Ako at Lahaina Restoration Foundation’s free, monthly Hawaiian Music Series concert on Thursday, May 28, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the Baldwin Home Museum lawn in Lahaina.
Kahula, lead singer for popular Maui band Nuff Sedd, will perform on guitar. This accomplished musician has composed and arranged most of the songs on Nuff Sedd recordings. The band’s cutting-edge sound combines music influences from ska and reggae to funk and R&B, and incorporates classic rock, alternative and pop sounds. As a Hawaiian music soloist, Kahula has performed with many popular Hawaiian artists and plays for weddings.
Ako performs as part of the Ako Trio with his father, Sam, a Hawaiian music legend, and younger brother, John. Ako is a versatile musician, playing ‘ukulele and guitar.
Together, Kahula and Ako’s harmonies have captured the hearts of many. Their seamless presentation of Hawaiian music resonates through each performance.
Limited seating is provided for kūpuna; blankets, mats and low-backed beach chairs are welcome.
This ongoing Hawaiian Music Series program is supported by Hawai‘i Tourism Authority and the County of Maui Office of Economic Development.
