Caregiver Workshops Scheduled for July 21

As Maui’s population ages, the challenges facing friends and family members who care for older loved ones at home can be daunting. With no clear guidelines, the responsibilities can lead to physical and emotional strain, and eventual burnout.

To help ease the burden of care, Hale Mahaolu, the Maui County Office on Aging and AARP Hawai‘i are teaming up for an event designed to help family caregivers.

The Reinventing Caregiving Workshops, which will be free and open to the public, are scheduled for Tuesday, July 21, at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s Alexa Higashi Room. Session one will be held in the morning from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and session two is in the evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Each of the two sessions will offer “The Organized Caregiver” and “Pathways to Love, Leadership and Living While Caring for Elders.”

The Organized Caregiver by Amy Goyer, author of AARP’s Juggling Life, Work and Caregiving. Caregiving can be an overwhelming experience with many details to keep track of. Learn how to streamline the caregiving process to free up time for yourself and get practical tips for managing time and creating systems that work.

Pathways to Love, Leadership and Living While Caring for Elders by Lyla Berg, author, entrepreneur, and resiliency coach. Many caregivers are vulnerable to feeling imprisoned by the daily tasks of giving care, their own expectations and the expectations of others. Learn ways to navigate through life’s complexities, turn frustration into fascination and handle conflicts with grace.
