Lānaʻi Police Investigate Report of Suspected Ordnance

An explosive ordnance disposal team from Oʻahu was called to assist police on Lānaʻi in the removal and disposal of suspected ordnance, police said.
Police say a 52-year-old resident found a canvas bag containing what he believed to be dynamite, a fuse and blasting caps within a storage shed.
The man loaded the suspected explosives into his vehicle to properly dispose of it, according to police reports; but was advised by police to immediately park his vehicle.
The incident was reported at around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, 2015 at the intersection of 6th Street and Ilama Avenue.
The perimeter was secured and nearby residents were evacuated.
Police say the road was re-opened at 8:30 p.m. and the suspected ordnance was destroyed by the EOD team at 9:22 p.m.
