Flood Warning Expired, Flood Advisory Extended

As of 9:45 p.m., the National Weather Service has allowed the Flood Warning for parts of Maui to expire.

The Flood Advisory (detailed below) has been extended through 12:45 a.m.

A cloud band associated with an old front is combining with the trade winds to generate showers with periods of locally heavy rainfall across Maui County.

Earlier this evening, a USGS rain gage report from Honopou stream in Maui was showing water levels high enough for flash flooding to occur around Hana highway near Lupi road and Ulalena loop.

Hana police dispatch was also investigating reports of possible mudslides near Honomanu Bay. Meanwhile, Molokai was experiencing mainly moderate but very persistent rain over the northern half of the island, for which a flood advisory was issued and is still in effect. Details at this link.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for parts of Maui until 9:45 p.m. Heavy rain is falling over Haiku-Pauwela with Honopou stream reporting water levels high enough to cause flash flooding around Hana Highway near Lupi Road.

Locations in the warning include, but are not limited to, Haiku-Pauwela, Haikua, Pukalani, Haliimaile, Makawao, Nahiku and Huelo.

A Flood Advisory is in effect through 9:15 p.m. for parts of Maui as well. Heavy rain is falling along the windward coastline of Maui from Hookipa beach park to Hamoa. Heaviest rain was affecting Keanae. Additional heavy showers were observed over the interior west Maui mountains and near Kahakuloa. Expect localized minor flooding over the advised area.

Locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Kahului, Kihei, Lahaina, Pauwela, Waikapu, Honokowai, Haiku and Paia.
