Waiehu Man Arrested After Police Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle

On Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, Kaulana Reinhardt, 23, of Waiehu was formally charged for the following offenses from Lahaina District: Attempted Murder in the First Degree; Reckless Driving; and Resisting an Order to Stop a Motor Vehicle.

His bail was set at $500,400.

Maui police apprehended a suspect following a police pursuit that began Sunday afternoon in Lahaina.

On Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015 at around 2:35 p.m., Wailuku Dispatch reported Kaulana Reinhardt, 23, of Waiehu, was in possession of a stolen silver colored vehicle.

Police allege that Reinhardt struck a Lahaina Police Officer’s vehicle and fled towards the Honoapiʻilani “Pali” Tunnel.

Police say Reinhardt was also wanted on several outstanding all-points bulletins for the alleged offenses of first degree robbery, second degree burglary and abuse of family or household member.

Lahaina Patrol Officers terminated the vehicle pursuit. Wailuku patrol officers responded by taking up strategic points along Māʻalaea, North Kīhei Road, Kuihelani Highway, Mokulele Highway and Honoapiʻilani Highway, according to department reports.

In the course of the pursuit, police say the stolen vehicle was involved in two minor motor vehicle accidents.

After the second minor vehicle accident, police say Reinhardt exited the stolen vehicle and fled on foot.

After a short foot chase, Reinhardt was apprehended. Police say he was arrested for: first degree attempted murder, first degree criminal property damage, two counts of resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle, two counts of reckless driving, resisting arrest, first degree robbery, second degree burglary, unauthorized control of a propelled motor vehicle and abuse of a family or household member.

No injuries were sustained as a result of the two vehicle accidents.

Reinhardt was formally charged for the following offenses from Wailuku District:

• Unauthorized Control of Propelled Vehicle
• Burglary in the second degree
• Resisting an Order to Stop a Motor Vehicle
• Reckless Driving
• Resisting Arrest
• Terroristic Threatening in the second degree

His bail was set at $18,000.

The investigation is ongoing. Reinhardt has not been formally charged for the attempted murder case which is under investigation.
