Hawaii Bankers Association Kick Off Foodbank Drive

The Hawaii Bankers Association has launched its ninth annual Foodbank Drive to benefit the Hawaii Foodbank, with donations being accepted at nearly 300 bank branches throughout the state through May 31, 2016.

All HBA members are participating in this year’s food drive, including American Savings Bank, Bank of Hawaii, Bank of the Orient, Central Pacific Bank, Finance Factors, First Foundation Bank, First Hawaiian Bank, Hawaii National Bank, HomeStreet Bank, Ohana Pacific Bank and Territorial Savings Bank.

“We are pleased once again to collect donations to feed the hungry in our community,” said Edward Y. W. Pei, HBA executive director. “Donations to the Hawaii Foodbank provide food assistance to 287,000 residents in our state. Last year, our customers and employees contributed 29,000 pounds of food and almost $77,000 in monetary donations. The need is greater than ever and we need your help.”

The non-perishable foods in greatest demand include meats or tuna; rice, meals, soups, vegetables and fruits.

While food donations are always needed, cash donations are even easier. Just see any teller at any branch.

The Hawaii Foodbank is the only nonprofit agency in Hawai‘i that collects, warehouses and distributes mass quantities of both perishable and non-perishable food to 200 member agencies, as well as food banks on Hawai‘i Island, Maui and Kaua‘i.

A $10 donation enables the food bank to distribute food for 25 meals.
