Pukalani Brush Fire Burns Half-Acre

Makawao firefighters responded to a brush fire on Alalani St. in Pukalani at 12:14 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2016,

The firefighters arrived nine minutes later and found about a quarter acre brush fire starting to head down into a gulch at the south end of Alalani Street.

Firefighters used a fire hydrant directly in front of the fire and were able to make a quick fire attack using hoselines and a large diameter water turret from the fire engine.

A Kahului water tanker also assisted at the scene.

Just under a half-acre was burned by the time crews got the fire under control at 12:43 p.m. It was called extinguished at 1:15 p.m.

The cause of the fire was undetermined.
