Maui Lani Kaiser Hires Two New Doctors

Kaiser Permanente has hired seven new care providers for its facilities, including a pediatric hospitalist and family medicine physician on Maui.

They join more than 600 physicians and other healthcare providers within the state’s largest medical group, the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, which provides comprehensive care to Kaiser Permanente’s 245,000-plus members in Hawai‘i.

Jennie Herrington, DO, is a pediatric hospitalist based at Kaiser Permanente Maui Lani Medical Office, caring for patients hospitalized at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She earned her osteopathic degree from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, California. Dr. Herrington completed her family medicine residency at University of Washington in Yakima, Washington, and her pediatric residency at University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Before joining HPMG, Dr. Herrington practiced as a pediatrician at Hilo Medical Center and Maui Memorial Medical Center. She is board certified in pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Anna Sokolowski, MD, practices family medicine at Kaiser Permanente Maui Lani Medical Office. She received her medical degree from University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, where she completed her residency through the Advocate Illinois Masonic Family Medicine Residency program with a focus on women’s health. She is board certified in family medicine.

O‘AHU

William Brian Hatten, DO, MS, practices hospital medicine at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas, and also holds a master of science in health care ethics from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Hatten served as chief resident during his family medicine residency at Methodist Charlton Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, and then completed his hospital medicine fellowship at Sutter Medical Group in Sacramento, California. He served most recently as associate medical director at Sutter Medical Group. Dr. Hatten is board certified in family medicine.

James Jones, DO, joins the family medicine department at Kaiser Permanente Kapolei Clinic. He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and served as chief resident during his family medicine residency at Tripler Army Medical Center. He is board certified in family medicine.

Kaipo Pau, MD, specializes in pain medicine at Kaiser Permanente Mapunapuna Medical Office. He received his medical degree from the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine, and completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, where he co-founded the department’s pain interest group. Dr. Pau received completed his fellowship in pain management at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School. He previously served as chief of pain management at the Orthopedic Surgical Center of the North Shore in Peabody, Massachusetts. Dr. Pau is board certified in pain medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Robert Pedersen, MD, is a pediatric neurologist at Kaiser Permanente Mapunapuna Medical Office. A U.S. Army veteran, Dr. Pedersen earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and completed his pediatric residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. He also completed a fellowship in child neurology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. Dr. Pedersen joins Kaiser Permanente from Tripler Army Medical Center, where he served in several leadership roles, including chief of child neurology, continuing medical education director, and pediatric residency program director. He is board certified in pediatrics and child neurology, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Heidi Solberg-Shankle, MD, joins the emergency medicine department at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center. She earned her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and completed her emergency medicine residency at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina. Dr. Solberg-Shankle previously practiced at Cascade Emergency Associates St. John Medical Center in Longview, Washington, where she served as assistant medical director, emergency department chair, and co-chair of the medical process improvement and quality improvement committee. Dr. Solberg-Shankle is board certified in emergency medicine.
