Brush Fire Burns Two Acres on Lānaʻi

Firefighters on Lānaʻi responded to a brush fire reported near the Maui Electric power plant on Miki Road on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016 at 5:11 p.m.

Fire officials say crews arrived at 5:22 p.m. and found brush burning about 100 yards to the south of the power plant. An engine and fire department water tanker were able to contain the fire to a two acre area outside of the power plant fence line and called it under control at 8:25 p.m.

Crews maintained a fire watch overnight.  On Thursday morning, Aug. 11, 2016, firefighters still found smoldering areas of buried organic matter, so they planned to patrol the area through the day.

The brush fire will be called extinguished after all smoldering areas are completely out.

The fire occurred in a grassy field with no obvious ignition sources. The cause of the fire was undetermined. There were no damages or injuries reported.

Six firefighters from the Lānaʻi fire station responded to the fire.
