US Patent Office to Conduct Maui Intellectual Boot Camp, Oct. 4

Experts from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Washington, D.C. will be on Maui to present an “Intellectual Property Boot Camp” at the Maui Research & Technology Center in Kīhei on Oct. 4, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This no-cost event will provide the business person with a working knowledge of intellectual property – patents, trade secrets, trademarks, and copyrights in the U.S. and abroad. Presenters Richard Cole, Deputy Director of the International Patent Legal Administration and Susan Anthony, Attorney in the Global Intellectual Property Academy in the Office of Policy and International Affairs will cover:

• What is a PATENT? Why should I get one, who can file, types of patents, options for foreign filing and more.
• What is a TRADEMARK? Selecting a strong trademark that is legally protectable and federally registered and more.
• What is a COPYRIGHT? What does a copyright protect and limitations and exceptions to copyrights and more.
• CASE STUDIES: Experts will discuss two hypothetical cases.

Attendees will receive an exclusive “US Government IP Resource” handout. In addition, one-on-one consultations (15 minutes limited session) will be available after the presentation for those who wish to sign up.
