The Maui Humane Society is seeking immediate short-term foster homes for dogs due to crowded conditions at the organization’s kennel.  “With dogs coming in almost daily, the kennels are starting to get uncomfortably crowded,” organization leaders said.

The Maui Humane Society will provide all supplies and information needed to become a foster home to a shelter dog.

For more information, contact [email protected] or call (808) 877-3680 ext. 3; or visit the shelter anytime between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Also this week, the Maui Humane Society launched an effort to build a “Farewell Gazebo,” an area that will serve as a quiet sanctuary where an owner can say their final goodbye to their beloved pet when, due to age and/or medical issues it is time to make that difficult decision to let them go.

The project is made possible by a grant from the Home Depot Foundation which paid for the majority of the building materials. Local community members Tracey Harrap and Mike Grier are leading the building efforts, which got underway on Friday, and are being assisted by several volunteers including Home Depot sales associates.

Maui Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, serving the community for over 60 years and is Maui’s only open admission shelter.  Their mission is to protect and serve the lives of Maui’s animals, accepting all in need, educating the community and inspiring respect and compassion toward all animals.

Each year the Maui Humane Society helps thousands of animals, taking in over 7,000 animals to the shelter and serving many times that number through community outreach programs. MHS also provides support for Maui’s approximately 90,000 pet owners as well as Animal Management Services for the County of Maui.
