3 Maui County Students Receive Monsanto Life Sciences Scholarship

Ten Hawaiʻi students, including three from Maui County, were recipients of the 2017 Monsanto Hawaiʻi Life Sciences Scholarship.

The scholarship is open to graduating seniors of all high schools in Hawaiʻi who will be attending an accredited college or university to pursue a discipline related to the life sciences. Related fields may include agriculture, agronomy, biology, botany, genetics, horticulture, plant physiology, chemistry, crop science and soil science.

“It’s an exciting time with so many different life science career paths available for our youth,” said Dan Clegg, Monsanto’s Hawaiʻi Business Operations Lead. “Monsanto is proud to support their efforts and recognize their accomplishments. Not only have they already demonstrated excellence in their high school academics, but through their pursuit of a life science career, they can apply their future knowledge toward making our community a better place to live.”

Each student received $1,000 to further their education, the recipients are: Lily Jenkins (Molokaʻi High School), Joshua Kepler (Kīhei Charter School), Kaitlyn Yamada (Seabury Hall), Michael Dressler (Kauaʻi High School), Genel Joy Galvez (Keaʻau High School), Kacie Kajihara (Kalani High School), Seung Hyun Kim (Kalani High School), Janelle Matsuoka (Mililani High School), Kiani Nishimoto (Waiakea High School), and Silas Pelkey (Hilo High School).
