Maui County Mayor Alan Arakawa answers some of the most-asked questions submitted to his staff.

Aloha Mayor,

Q: Who can we reach out to for a request for a traffic study? The light at Līpoa and Piʻilani needs to stay green like 30-45 more seconds from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. It is ridiculous that only four to five cars can get through a green light when there are four schools on Līpoa. The traffic lights should be programmed to accommodate the school traffic on Līpoa Monday through Friday.  Mahalo.

A: I’m told the State Department of Transportation is aware of this issue and is working on it. Staggered pick-up and drop-off times might work as well but that’s something that the school needs to coordinate with parents.
