Maui Woman Dies in Pi‘ilani Highway Hit-and-Run Accident

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision
On Tuesday, December 25th, 2018 at approximately 6:25 p.m., a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on Piilani Highway just south of Kaonoulu Street in Kihei, Hawaii.
Preliminary investigation reveal’s that a Harley Davidson Motorcycle with two occupants was traveling southbound on Piilani Highway. While the motorcycle was in motion it collided with a rock on the roadway south of Kaonoulu Street. After colliding with the rock the female passenger fell off the motorcycle and onto the roadway. An unknown vehicle then collided with the female passenger after she fell off the motorcycle. The operator of the vehicle who struck the female passenger did not stop or report that they were involved in this collision.
The motorcycle was being operated by a 50 year old male from Kihei who was not injured as a result of this collision.
The female passenger who fell off the motorcycle was identified as 45 year old Stacy Jackson of Kihei. She sustained fatal injuries as a result of this incident and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neither the operator nor the passenger of the motorcycle were wearing helmets at the time.
The roadway was closed for about four hours while police investigated.
The Maui Police Department is asking for anyone who may have witnessed this collision or might have any information regarding the other vehicle involved to contact Officer Aaron Williams of the Vehicle Homicide Unit at (808)244-6365.
The involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol have yet to be determined as this investigation is currently ongoing.
This is Maui County’s 18th traffic fatality as compared to 17 this time last year.

(10:55 p.m. Dec. 25, 2018) Piʻilani Highway (31) in Kīhei is now OPEN in both directions. It was closed earlier between Kaonoulu Street and Kūlanihākoʻi Street due to a motor vehicle collision that reportedly occurred at around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018.

(6:30 p.m. Dec. 25, 2018) Piʻilani Highway is closed to traffic in both directions between Kaonoulu and Kūlanihākoʻi Street due to a motor vehicle collision. Motorists are being rerouted down either road. Maui Police say it is unknown when it will reopen as police investigate. The department issued a road closure notification at around 9 p.m.
