Arrest Made in Threat Incident at Maui Clinic

A 58-year-old Maui man was arrested and charged with terroristic threatening on Thursday night following a reported threat at a medical facility on Maui.

Maui police say Jonathan Todd of Pāʻia was being held in lieu of $1,000 bail for his alleged involvement in an incident at the Kaiser Permanente Maui Lani facility reported at around 2:22 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2019.

Police say an employee reported receiving a call from a male identifying himself as Jonathan Todd. According to police reports, the caller reportedly threatened to commit a shooting at the clinic.

Kaiser decided to shut down operations as a result for the remainder of the day. Police responded but did not locate any immediate threat.

Several hours later, (on April 4, 2019), at around 6:30 p.m. officers responded to Maui Memorial Medical Center in Wailuku, less than a mile away, for a report of a bomb threat call received by the hospital.  The hospital decided to go into lockdown as Maui Fire and Police searched the property. Police say nothing was found and the hospital reopened at around 7:50 p.m.

Police located Todd at his residence at around 6:50 p.m. He was arrested and charged with the offense of first degree terroristic threatening in connection with the Maui Lani incident.

Yesterday, police said the threats were possibly made by the same person. Police now say it is undetermined if the two incidents are related, as the investigation is ongoing.
