Maui Gas Prices Stabilizing
Maui gas prices in Kahului and Wailuku averaged $3.82 for regular. That’s unchanged since last Thursday, eight cents higher than last month and 15 cents lower than a year ago.
Gas prices stabilized throughout some parts of the islands while other areas experienced slight increases from the previous week, according to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch.
Today’s statewide average price is $3.62 a gallon, which is two cents higher than last Thursday, 17 cents higher than a month ago and one cent more than a year ago, according to AAA.
“The Energy Information Administration’s weekly report showed that West Coast gasoline stocks fell for the sixth week by nearly 300,000 barrels and now sit at 27.9 million barrels,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaiʻi general manager. “With tightened gas stocks, motorists have felt an increasing squeeze on their wallets at the pump. These increases mean Americans must work more to afford to fill-up their gas tanks. AAA found that Americans must work 22% longer than at the start of the year to buy one gallon of unleaded gasoline – that’s 7.3 minutes compared to 5.76 minutes in January.”
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.51, which is one cent higher than last Thursday, 17 cents higher than on this date a month ago and three cents higher than on this date last year.
The Hilo average price is $3.73, which is up one cent from last Thursday, 18 cents higher than on this date last month and seven cents higher than on this date a year ago.
