No Tsunami Threat After 7+ Papua New Guinea Quake

There is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi after a preliminary magnitude 7.1 earthquake reported at 11:20 a.m. HST on Monday, May 6, 2019, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
The quake was located in Easter New Guinea in the region of Papua New Guinea.
The PTWC says that based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi.

The USGS reports that the quake was located at a depth of 137 km and was located 22.7 miles SE of Bulolo, Morobe, Papua New Guinea.
