Lotteries were held for applicants of the Waiʻale ʻElua workforce housing subdivision. The 70 unit development is located on land north of the Waikapū Gardens subdivision in Central Maui and features three or four bedroom options.

Heidi Bigelow R(S), project manager for the subdivision tells Maui Now that four separate lotteries were held for each income group (below 80% of median income, 81% to 100%, 101% – 120%, and 121% to 140%). In total, 280 applications were received and processed.

“We owe a huge mahalo to the team at Home Street Bank for their assistance in processing the applications,” said Bigelow.

Home construction starts this month, and the first homes are expected to be ready for occupancy at the end of this year.  The rest will be completed in the first half of 2020.

The lottery was held on Wednesday, May 15 at the Waikapū Community Center. Those in attendance included many of the applicants as well as Lori Tsuhako, the Maui Director of Housing and Human Concerns.
