Hawaiʻiʻs Internet Speed Just Got Faster, Report Finds

Internet speeds statewide have increased over the last year, according to a report from the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. 

On Monday, the department announced the release of its 2019 Report on Fixed Wireline Broadband Speeds. 

According to the report, mean download speeds statewide increased from approximately 129 Megabits per second to 159 Mbps between this past June and June of last year. Median download speeds increased from approximately 78 Mbps to 92 Mbps. 

The report is based on Hawaiʻi data obtained from consumer-initiated wireline speed tests and includes data by county and smaller geographical areas.

“We have continued to look at ways to better provide access to unserved and underserved communities across Hawaiʻi,” DCCA director Catherine Awakuni Colón said in a press release. 

“By evaluating the speed of existing internet services offered, we hope to provide stakeholders and the public with useful insights as we work together to advance broadband access.”
