‘The Graduate’ to Make Maui Premiere
Based on the novel by Charles Webb and the iconic 1967 film of the same name, “The Graduate” is a “bitterly hilarious” dark comedy that follows the life of the young, disillusioned Benjamin Braddock.
After achieving an excellent academic record in high school, Braddock finds himself adrift and uncertain about his future upon graduation.
He is tempted into an affair with the unhappily married wife of his father’s business partner and later falls in love with her daughter.
Maui Onstage describes Terry Johnson’s stage adaptation of the tumultuous tale as “full of rapid-fire dialogue between fascinating and horrifying characters.”
“This play explores family dysfunction, parental expectations, crumbling marriages, and the naive, yet disillusioned, dichotomy of youth, against the shiny backdrop of affluent Southern California in the 1960s,” Maui Onstage stated in a press release.
The play will run from Sept. 27 through Oct. 13 at the Historic ʻĪao Theatre. Performances are slated for 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and at 3 p.m. on Sundays.
