Maui Sees Rise in Visitor Spending and Arrivals

Tourists on Maui spent a total of $404.8 million last month, a 14 percent increase from the same time last year. 

According to a report from the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority, the island also saw hikes in visitor arrivals and their average length of stay, as well as the amount visitors spent per day in August compared to last year. 

Statewide, tourists spent a total of $1.5 billion in August, a 6 percent rise from last year. About 10 percent more visitors came to Hawaiʻi last month compared to the same time last year.   

Oʻahu and Hawaiʻi Island saw increases in visitor spending and arrivals. The results for Kauaʻi were comparable to that of last year. 

The HTA noted that Hurricane Lane and the Kīlauea eruption impacted visitor statistics for last August.
