Maui Paddle For Hunger Raises $8K and 1,200 Pounds of Food

A total of $8,162 and 1,200 pounds of food were raised for Maui Food Bank during the 19th annual Paddle for Hunger event held on Thanksgiving morning in Kīhei. Event organizers say that together this will provide 33,848 meals for needy families in Maui County.

More than 350 paddlers and spectators came out in support of the event organized by Hawaiian Paddle Sports.

This year’s event featured untimed “races,” a silent auction, door prizes and a pre-event food drive at Nalu’s to support the Maui Food Bank in its mission to feed the hungry.

“We’d like to thank everyone who came out on Thanksgiving morning to paddle, donate, and support the Maui Food Bank,” said Timothy Lara, owner of Hawaiian Paddle Sports. “The cause, the camaraderie, and the collaborative spirit of the event are a highlight for everyone involved, especially on Thanksgiving.”

Paddle For Hunger is organized by Hawaiian Paddle Sports as part of its Mālama Maui community give back program.
