Lt. Governor Green is ʻConfidentʻ in Maui Hospital Amid COVID-19 Outbreak

As concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus escalate, state and county officials gathered at the Maui Memorial Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon to discuss preventative measures and potential emergency response.

Among the dignitaries was Lt. Gov. Josh Green, who was recently appointed as a liaison between the state and the healthcare community to help coordinate COVID-19 preparedness.

“I feel very confident that the team at Maui Memorial has both the supplies that it needs and the personnel it needs to do an excellent job if one of our citizens does test positive for COVID19,” Green said after a tour of the hospital.

“Iʻm also very confident that they have the line of communication open, so if they need extra materials, extra service lines, they can not only rely on the vibrant team that they have, and partners they have with Kaiser, both on Oʻahu and on the mainland, but throughout the state.”

Sen. J. Kalani English, Sen. Roz Baker, Sen. Gil Keith-Agaran, Rep. Lynn DeCoite, Mayor Mike Victorino also visited the hospital to discuss preventative measures.

The Hawai‘i State Senate recently passed an emergency funding bill providing more than $10,000,000 to the state transportation, defense, and health departments to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

The bill is currently pending in the House of Representatives.
