500 Bags of Food Distributed to Residents in Need in West Maui; Lānaʻi Distribution at 2 p.m. April 17

More than 500 bags of food were distributed today, April 16, to individuals impacted by COVID-19 in West Maui.

The distribution was a joint effort with VIP Foodservice, Mahi Pono, Don Ito, Maui Chemical, Matson, Aloha Waste Systems, Inc., Maui Lani Golf Course, Miyake Concrete, the State Department of Transportation and the County of Maui.

“Mahalo to all the County employees and other groups and organizations for coming together to make this food distribution possible,” Mayor Michael Victorino said. “I would also like to thank the Maui Police Department, Department of Public Works and Department of Parks and Recreation for helping to ensure a smooth and successful event in West Maui.”

“A special mahalo also goes out to all the local businesses that have stepped up to assist the community by donating food and services.”

County officials report that more than 2,000 bags of food have been distributed to communities across Maui County over the last month.

Food Distribution Lānaʻi on Friday, April 17 

The next food distribution will take place tomorrow, Friday, April 17 on the Island of Lānaʻi, starting at 2 p.m. at the Lānaʻi Senior Center.  An estimated 100 bags of produce will be provided with one bag allowed per vehicle.  Residents are asked to enter through Gay Street.

Bags will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.  One hundred additional bags of produce will also be delivered to Lānaʻi kupuna through the Meals on Wheels program.

“We are so appreciative for the community partners who are helping us provide fresh food to families on Lānaʻi impacted by COVID-19,” Mayor Michael Victorino said.

“A special Mahalo to Councilmember Riki Hokama, Denise Fernandez from the Lānaʻi County Council District Office, Dave Embry and the farmers on Lānaʻi, and Kris Kahihikolo from the Lānaʻi Senior Center.”
