The County of Maui hosts a food distribution event in Central Maui at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, at the War Memorial Gymnasium parking lot in Wailuku.

The distribution event is for residents in need due to impacts of COVID-19. Maui Mayor Michael Victorino said an estimated 300 to 500 bags of food will be distributed at the event on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The War Memorial Gym parking lot can be accessed through a right turn from Kanaloa Avenue onto Haliʻa Nakoa Street. A left turn onto Haliʻa Nakoa will NOT be permitted.

“Mahalo to the many businesses, County employees and volunteers who have helped make these food distributions happen,” said Mayor Victorino. “I ask residents to remember that this food is intended to help those in our community who are struggling due to job losses and financial hardship.”

He extended a special thanks to VIP Foodservice, Maui County Farm Bureau, Mahi Pono, Valley Isle Fellowship, Miyake Concrete, the Hawaiʻi National Guard, Alaska Airlines and the Maui Police Department.

More than 6,000 bags of food and produce have been handed out to residents in distribution events across Maui County as part of the County’s COVID-19 response efforts.
