Art of Trash 2021 is seeking submissions for its annual juried exhibition, which will be held virtually in April this year due to the pandemic.

Art of Trash includes an Art Gallery and Trashion Show, which inspire people to creatively reimagine resources as art and fashion.

To submit an art piece for the Art Gallery and/or a fashion piece for the Trashion Show, visit MalamaMauiNui.org/ArtOfTrash and follow the provided instructions. Participants can submit multiple pieces for both the Art Gallery and Trashion Show.

The registration fee is $15 per piece and proceeds will benefit Mālama Maui Nui. Submissions will be accepted virtually from Feb. 1 to March 1, 2021.

All entries must be original work made from recycled and/or reused material. Natural items such as drift wood, shells, food, etc. are discouraged.

The Juror will be looking for the transformation of material, good craftsmanship and overall creativity. If your piece gets selected, it will be featured in The Art of Trash Virtual Exhibition at MalamaMauiNui.org/ArtOfTrash.

The event is hosted by Mālama Maui Nui, a nonprofit organization that empowers residents to work together to keep Maui Nui clean, safe and healthy. It is sponsored by the County of Maui’s Environmental Protection & Sustainability Division.

Juror-selected Trashion Show pieces will be professionally filmed while designers “walk the runway” in their designs. The resulting video will be showcased in the Virtual Exhibition. Impressive prizes will be awarded to winners of the Juror’s Choice Awards and Community Choice Awards.
