Flood Watch Extended Through Friday Afternoon

The National Weather Service has extended a Flash Flood Watch for the Hawaiian Islands, which is now in effect through Friday afternoon.

“A low west of Kauaʻi will keep the atmosphere moist and unstable, maintaining the potential for locally heavy rainfall,” according to the NWS forecast.

The NWS says significant flooding may occur due to the overflow of streams and drainage ditches, that may result in runoff, property damage, and landslides in areas of steep terrain.

As a precaution, the public is advised to be prepared to take action if a Flash Flood Warning is issued.

According to the forecast: “If you experience heavy rain or rising waters, head to higher ground immediately. A flash flood watch means that conditions are favorable for flash flooding. Flash flooding is life threatening.”

Motorists and pedestrians are reminded not to cross fast flowing or rising water in their vehicle or on foot.
