“Halloween is on,” Mayor Victorino said during an afternoon press briefing on Tuesday. “We will allow you to go out and trick-or-treat,” he said, noting that traditional trick-or-treating is okay if families stay within household pods when going out.

While a return to door-to-door traditions is allowed this year, the Mayor is encouraging drive-through options like the “Halloween Drive-Through Adventure at Keōpūolani” Park in Kahului. The event runs from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Halloween evening, Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021.

“I’d like for you to consider the drive-throughs. They are safer, they’re more fun, more entertaining. You don’t have to worry about your child running across the street. You can have a controlled environment,” said Mayor Victorino. “I want you to consider that, along with having neighborhood ‘block Halloween’ [events]… Whatever you can do to make it a safer Halloween, I appreciate it.”

According to the Mayor, similar events are being held at various other locations and dates including a “Candy Lane” drive-through event at Kings Cathedral in Kahului from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29.

Other organized events have yet to be announced in Lahaina and Upcountry, Maui.

“We want our kids to have a healthy, safe, and exciting Halloween,” said Mayor Victorino.
