Two Arrests Made in Connection with Case Involving Missing O‘ahu Girl, Isabella Kalua

Update: Isabella “Ariel” Kalua’s adoptive parents, Isaac and Lehua Kalua, were placed under arrest today for second-degree murder amid a two month investigation into the six-year-old girl’s disappearance. A full update is posted here.

Investigators with the Honolulu Police Department have made two arrests in connection with the Isabella Kalua missing persons case. Details will be released at a news conference, scheduled for 3 p.m. today at the HPD’s main station.

Six-year-old Isabella Kalua, also known as Ariel Sellers, was last seen asleep in her room at her Puha Street address in Waimanalo on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021, at approximately 9 p.m.

Honolulu Police had initiated the search two months ago amid concerns for the girl’s safety and well-being. The FBI Honolulu office confirmed with Maui Now that they are assisting the Honolulu Police Department, which is the lead investigative agency in the case.  

Today’s arrests mark a major development in the case which has involved extensive searches by both authorities and community members.
