Waiehu structure fire causes $125,000 in damage, 2 people displaced

A structure fire in Waiehu caused an estimated $125,000 in damage and displaced two people. The fire was reported at 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, at the 1600 block of Kahekili Highway.
Firefighters arrived to find a structure adjacent to a church fully involved. Fire had also spread to the church and there was some minor extension to the surrounding brush. Crews worked to control the fire and confirm that all occupants had exited the structures.
The fire caused 100% damage to the non-conforming structure, and 20% damage to the church. This resulted in $113,000 in total damages to both structures and $12,000 in damage to the contents.
The fire was brought under control at 4:23 p.m. and extinguished at 7:37 p.m. The cause of the fire is undetermined, but remains under investigation.
Units responding to the scene included: Engine 1, Engine 10, Tanker 10, Rescue 10, Engine 14, a battalion chief and a fire investigator.
No injuries reported. The displaced individuals were being assisted by the American Red Cross.
