VIDEO: Body Found, Maui Murder Investigation Underway

[flashvideo file=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBNhDdkssXk /] Maui police have opened a murder II investigation into the death of a man found at a Kahului beach on Christmas day.

The incident was reported at 2:35 p.m. on Sunday, December 25th off of Amala Place and east of the County of Maui Wastewater Treatment Plant in Kahului.

According to police reports, a female caller reported finding an unresponsive male, who appeared to have suffered a severe head injury.

Officers from the Wailuku Patrol Division and crews from the American Medical Response Unit responded to the scene.

A lifeless Caucasian male was found and confirmed dead at the scene.

The victim has been tentatively identified as a 57 year old man. Positive identification and notification of next of kin are pending.

An autopsy has been scheduled for today, Monday, December 26th, 2011.

Criminal Investigation Division, Crimes Against Persons Unit and Evidence Specialist personnel were notified by Watch Commander Lieutenant G. Moniz, and also responded to the scene.

The processing of the scene and a preliminary investigation reveals the male victim suffered multiple trauma to the head.

At the time of this writing, authorities had yet to identify an offender(s) or suspect(s).

The incident remains under investigation.
