Flood Watch posted for Kauaʻi, Niʻihau and Oʻahu through Thursday afternoon

(Update: 4:36 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026) A Flood Watch is in effect for the western portion of the state due to deep tropical moisture that is drawn northward over the state. Kauaʻi, Niʻihau and Oʻahu are under the Flood Watch from Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon.
The National Weather Service is forecasting heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms to develop tonight and continue through Thursday. Heavy showers containing intense rain rates will be possible over the watch area.
Areas under the watch should be on alert for elevated runoff in areas prone to flooding and in low-lying areas. As a precaution, the public should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
“Given the potential for flow-parallel bands of convection to develop, there is concern for training of heavy showers,” according to an NWS forecast discussion. “Rain rates could also be intense at times given the combination of forcing and deep tropical moisture. Subsequent shifts will evaluate the potential for an expansion to Maui County pending additional data.”
