Cold Front Rapidly Approaching Kauai

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement as a cold front rapidly approaches the eastern end of the state with strong and gusty winds.

At around 8 a.m., forecast models showed a line of heavy showers with local wind gusts over 4o miles per hour approaching Kauai and Niihau.

The cold front is expected to move across the two islands this morning.  Behind the front, winds are expected to shift to the west and northwest, and remain gusty with wet weather expected through the rest of the day.

Forecasters say the system will continue its path southeast across the islands today, bringing cloudy skies and showers as it moves from Kauai by midday, reaching the Big Island by early Wednesday morning.

Here in Kahului, chance of rain is 60% today.  The National Weather Service recorded a record low precipitation for Kahului in January at 0.00 inches, breaking the previous record of 0.02 inches set in 2001.
