Maui Black Friday Flood Advisory

The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for the island of Maui at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2012.

The advisory will remain in effect until 5:15 p.m., and may be extended beyond that time if heavy rain persists.

Forecasters say radar at 3:44 p.m. showed a thunderstorm with heavy rain near Ulupalakua, or about 19 miles south of Kahului.  The area of rain was moving South at about 5 miles per hour.

As a precaution, the National Weather Service issued an advisory to stay away from streams, drainage ditches, and low lying areas that are prone to flooding.
