The department is also encouraging taxpayers to file their electronically to save time and receive their refunds faster. By filing electronically, taxpayers can receive their refunds by direct deposit within 7-10 days.

If, however, taxpayers choose to file a paper tax return and have the refund check mailed to them, the tax return and refund process will reportedly take approximately eight weeks. The fastest way to file a Hawaii tax return and receive a refund is through the state’s e-filing system, which is free, by visiting www.hawaii.gov/tax.

As of last week, the department reportedly processed more than 400,000 tax returns with more than 300,000 taxpayers had filed electronically and approximately 100,000 by paper. So far, the department said it had processed more than 300,000 refunds this season, or about $216 million dollars.
