Governor David Ige joined the Labor Department and Small Business Administration today in announcing several measures to address the economic impact of COVID-19 in Hawaiʻi.

The “evidence of community transmission” has begun on the island of Oʻahu where 10 COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday and 11 more cases were reported today for a total of 28 on the island, and 37 total across the state, according to state Health officials.

Haleakalā National Park is announcing modifications to operations to implement the latest guidance from the White House, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), and local and state authorities to promote social distancing. As of March 21, 2020, Haleakalā National Park is closed, this includes the Kīpahulu District and Summit District of the park.

With many schools closed due to the virus, the Department of Education will not be enforcing standardized testing requirements, according to new information today provided during a White House press briefing.

Preparations are underway to ready the War Memorial Gymnasium parking lot in Wailuku as Maui’s drive-through testing site for COVID-19. Details of the operation will be announced on Friday, with the goal of tests to start as early as next week.
