There were 756 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Monday, including 85 on Maui.
Sept. 5, 2021 COVID-19 Update: 731 New Cases in Hawai‘i, 10 Deaths
Hawai‘i’s COVID-19 deaths increased to 624, with 10 new deaths reported today, including three deaths each on Maui and O’ahu, and one death each on Kaua’i and Hawai’i Island. One of the Maui deaths involved a man in his 20s with underlying conditions.

Maui Hospital Prepares Now to Mitigate Oxygen Needs, Potential Rise in COVID Care
Maui County had 467 new cases from Monday through Friday of last week alone. Maui Health administrators say research has shown that about 10% of positive cases will likely need hospitalization within 10-14 days of virus onset. That could translate to 46 additional hospitalizations within the next two weeks.

Customers will also have to provide proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to enter the business.

The Hawaiʻi Department of Health reports the state has surpassed 10,000 new COVID-19 cases in the past 14-days and a record high one-day case count today. 10,817 cases were documented in the last 14 days, including 1,678 today.

A group of about 40 people showed up for a sign waving demonstration in support of Dr. Lorrin Pang, Maui’s District Heath Officer. The two hour event was staged along Kaʻahumanu Avenue in Kahului on Saturday, fronting the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College where Dr. Pang had orchestrated the island’s first mass vaccination clinics of the COVID-19 pandemic on island.

Maui’s 21 Day Lockdown is Voluntary, Stricter Rules Still on the Table
Hawaiʻi had 9,790 cases over the past two weeks, which accounts for more than 16% of the total confirmed cases for the state of Hawaiʻi’s since March of 2020. Maui’s reported new cases reported over the last 14 days is 1,124.
