Maui hospital has “longest, most sustained” high census, not related to COVID-19

Despite dropping COVID-19 case counts, Maui Memorial Medical Center continues to experience its “longest and most sustained” high census, according to a spokesperson with Maui Health.

Green: Most mandates may be lifted soon; county rules should be consistent

Lt. Gov. Josh Green told Maui Now in an exclusive interview today that state officials are “hopeful and cautiously optimistic” that most COVID-19 restrictions could be lifted by the end of next month. Maui County Managing Director Sandy Baz, meanwhile, said the Safe Travels program may be eliminated in the next month or two, adding that nothing has been set in stone.

Feb. 16, 2022 COVID-19 update: 12 deaths, 203 new infections in Hawaiʻi

Of today’s 203 cases, there are 200 cases identified as confirmed, and three probable cases were added to the count.  The confirmed cases included: 147 on O‘ahu (+6 probable); one on Hawai‘i Island (+3 probable); 29 on Maui (-1 probable); 16 on Kaua‘i (-7 probable); 0 on Molokaʻi; 0 on Lānaʻi; and seven Hawai‘i residents diagnosed while out of state (+2 probable).

The latest data represents a total of 11,026 “active” cases statewide over two weeks. This is now below the delta peak of 11,500. Maui County’s seven day average of cases is now 41.9 cases per 100,000. This is below the delta peak of 57.6 per 100,000 reported on Aug. 25, and the 412.1 per 100,000 reported on Jan. 21, 2022.

Todayʻs count includes 63 cases on Maui, 86 on Hawaiʻi Island, 101 on Kauaʻi, two on Molokaʻi, three on Lānaʻi, and 15 out of state.  There are 228 new COVID-19 cases on Oʻahu.

Feb. 13, 2022 COVID-19 update: 4 deaths, 532 new infections in Hawaiʻi

Todayʻs count includes 82 cases on Maui, 64 on Hawaiʻi Island, 62 on Kauaʻi, three on Molokaʻi, six on Lānaʻi, and 28 out of state.  There are 287 new COVID-19 cases on Oʻahu.

Feb. 12, 2022 COVID-19 update: 11 deaths, 740 new infections in Hawaiʻi

There are 740 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawaiʻi today, including 72 on Maui, seven on Molokaʻi, and two on Lānaʻi. Thereʻs also 11 new COVID-19 deaths, including seven on Oʻahu, three on Hawaiʻi Island, and one on Kauaʻi.

Todayʻs count includes 62 cases on Maui, 148 on Hawaiʻi Island, 55 on Kauaʻi, 14 on Molokaʻi, two on Lānaʻi, and 12 out of state.  There are 414 new COVID-19 cases on Oʻahu.

Feb. 10, 2022 COVID-19 update: 6 deaths, 1,195 new infections in Hawaiʻi

In Maui County, the seven day average for new daily cases dropped to 102. The countyʻs test positivity rate is now 8.8%, and the statewide positivity rate is now 8.4%.

Feb. 9, 2022 COVID-19 update: 7 deaths, 519 new infections in Hawaiʻi

As of 9 a.m. on Feb. 9, 2022, the latest data available, there are 22 people hospitalized in Maui County with COVID-19, dropping below both the 41 reported during the height of the delta surge in August 2021, and the previous omicron high of 56 reported on Jan. 28, 2022.  This includes nine vaccinated (including one boosted), and 13 unvaccinated. Of the 22 COVID-19 hospitalizations, two are in the ICU (both unvaccinated), and one is on a ventilator (unvaccinated).

Ige: Boosters won’t be added to Safe Travels Hawaiʻi; Indoor mask mandate continues

The Safe Travels Hawai‘i program will remain unchanged at this time, and booster shots will not be required for “up-to-date” vaccination status for individuals traveling to Hawai‘i, Gov. David Ige announced today.

Feb. 8, 2022 COVID-19 update: 533 new infections in Hawaiʻi

In Maui County, the seven day average for new daily cases dropped to 121. The countyʻs test positivity rate is now 10.2%. It’s the first time the rate has been reported since the 23.9% on Jan. 15, when a bottleneck in testing temporarily suspended reporting of this metric.

Todayʻs count includes 92 cases on Maui, 125 on Hawaiʻi Island, 94 on Kauaʻi, four on Molokaʻi, seven on Lānaʻi, and 23 out of state.  There are 488 new COVID-19 cases on Oʻahu.

Feb. 6, 2022 COVID-19 update: 4 deaths and 916 new infections in Hawaiʻi

The latest data represents a total of 22,808 “active” cases statewide over two weeks, far surpassing the delta peak of 11,500. Maui County’s seven day average of cases is now 88.8 cases per 100,000, above the delta peak of 57.6 per 100,000 reported on Aug. 25, but below the 412.1 reported on Jan. 21, 2022.

There were 1,278 new COVID-19 cases today, including 139 in Maui County; and 18 deaths, including three on Maui.

Maui Mayor relaxing pandemic rule on COVID-19 boosters due to dropping cases

Come Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, the “updated” vaccination records reflecting proof of having a booster, will no longer be required for these activities. County officials provided clarification, saying the booster will be recommended, not required; but a CDC card showing proof of vaccination is still required for these activities.
