Thirteen Candidates Apply for Vacant District 13 House Seat
Thirteen candidates have applied to fill the vacant seat in House District 13 left by Rep. Mele Carroll, who resigned on Feb. 1, 2015. The Maui County Democratic Party received the applications for the district seat, which includes Pā‘ia, Ha‘ikū, East Maui, Moloka‘i, Lāna‘i and Kaho‘olawe. The 23 members of the District 13 Council will meet as the official nominating committee for the applicants on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Sierra Club Maui’s Annual Meeting and Awards on Feb. 8

MPD Search for Kulamalu Longs Robbery Suspect
The Maui Police Department is looking for a male suspect who jumped over pharmacy counter at Longs Drugs in Kulamalu on Feb. 2 at approximately 8:27 p.m., brandishing a black handgun. He pointed the gun at pharmacists and demanded “oxys” (Oxycodone). “A few Maui doctors have created a large number of prescription narcotic addicts who will become increasingly desperate to get their fix….”
Feb. 6 Deadline Set for House District 13 Representative Applications
Rep. Mele Carroll resigned as of Feb. 1, 2015, leaving a vacancy in the District 13 State House. Applications to fill her position are now available online. The Maui County Democratic Party has set a deadline of Friday, Feb. 6, at 11 p.m. to apply for the seat.
